Lauren Ray LCMHC, QS
Co-Founder
Child, Adolescent & Adult Therapist
Most of the people I work with don’t need someone to just nod along or hand them a worksheet.
They need someone who can actually be with them—whether that’s a child deep in play, a teen testing the limits of the room, or an adult who’s learned to hold everything together on the outside.
That’s where I tend to live as a therapist.
I work from a relational, play-based, and experiential lens, which means sessions don’t follow a script. With kids, that might look like building, destroying, storytelling, or figuring out who has the power in the room that day. With teens and adults, it often looks like slowing things down, noticing patterns as they happen, and working with what’s underneath—not just talking about it.
I’m not especially interested in surface-level coping if it doesn’t actually stick. I care more about helping things shift at the level where they started—whether that’s through Child-Centered Play Therapy, Brainspotting, or simply staying with something long enough for it to change.
People often tell me they feel both comfortable and held accountable in our work. I’m warm, but I’m also paying attention. I’ll follow your lead, but I won’t disappear.

For parents
If you’re bringing your child to therapy, you won’t be left out of the process—but your child will have a space that is truly their own.
Play therapy doesn’t always look “fun” in the way people expect. It can be messy, controlling, quiet, repetitive, or intense. That’s not a problem—that’s the work.
I’ll help you understand what you’re seeing, what it means, and how to support your child outside the room without taking over their process.
⸻
For teens and adults
You don’t have to perform here.
A lot of my clients are used to being:
• the responsible one
• the insightful one
• the one who’s “fine”
We can work with that—but we don’t have to stay there.
⸻
A quick note on fit
I tend to be a good fit if you’re looking for something real, relational, and not overly scripted.
If you’re wanting a highly structured, skills-only approach, I may not be the best match—and I’m always happy to help you find someone who is.
